Yumi Nu Becomes the First Plus-Size Model to Grace Vogue Japan Solo

Now that Tiffany Godoy is officially at the helm of Vogue Japan, we’re hopeful about the magazine’s future. Under Mitsuko Watanabe, we became accustom to covers photographed by regulars Luigi & Iango. Not to mention cover stars like Imaan Hammam, Lila Moss, Cocomi, Kim Kardashian and Kaia Gerber (to name just a select few) serving us pure unapologetic glamour. Recent covers have fallen short, but there are signs of promise for April 2022 as Yumi Nu becomes the first plus-size model to grace the Japanese fashion bible solo. For the retro cover, Yumi sports a creation from Tokyo-based designer Ryunosuke Okazaki picked by Sissy Vian for the image captured by Nathaniel Goldberg.

Members of our forums like what they see. “Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous,” raved dfl-001 the moment the cover dropped.

“Their first good cover this year. It’s giving me U.S. Vogue under Diana Vreeland vibes,” declared crmsnsnwflks.

“So happy to see the signature white background is back!” exclaimed 0st3nd.

Urban Stylin is also a fan: “Love everything including the text and color combination.”

“Loving the hairstyle and outfit mix!” noted FashionMuseDior.

“That’s a winner,” proclaimed ivano.

“Yup! That’s a winner in my book,” echoed an equally impressed RedSmokeRise.

“The best cover of Vogue Japan in what feels like eternity. The sight of the white background feels like a return to form, very much into the Diana Vreeland-ness of it all and I can appreciate the use of a Japanese fashion label worn by Yumi here!” voiced vogue28.
